Cristian Portu out indefinitely after right ankle surgery. Girona have confirmed that Cristian Portu underwent surgery on his right ankle injury on Monday and will be out indefinitely depending on the 32-year-old’s recovery.
Portu suffered a right ankle injury as a substitute in the 3-2 Champions League defeat at Feyenoord and was expected to be out for the international break in October, but that was not to be, with the 32-year-old Girona forward undergoing surgery to repair his right ankle on Monday.
Attacker Portu, for his part, was force to sit out last time out, as Girona put Athletic Club to the sword in a La Liga clash at the Estadi Montilivi.
This came owing to an ongoing ankle concern, which it was initially hope would heal over the course of the international break.
As alluded to above, however, this has since not proven to be the case.
Instead, on the advice of the Girona medical staff, Portu on Monday underwent corrective surgery on his right ankle.
‘Cristian Portu has undergone surgery due to discomfort in his right ankle. The operation was carry out by Dr Ramon Cougat and the progress of his recovery will determine when the player will be able to return to training,’ the Catalan club said.
